I had the pleasure of joining Patti Austin on Pensado’s Place last week. I hope you enjoy the interview and wish you all best wishes for the New Year.
As promised…This is “Night Bloom” composed, arranged and performed by Tom Scott from “One Night / One Day.” This is hot!
Tomorrow Soundwings is re-leasing Tom Scott’s wonderful album “One Night / One Day”.
In framing this album with Tom, the intent was to paint on the big canvas, to showcase not only Tom’s abilities as a saxophonist, but as a complete musician, as comfortable in a New Orleans dive as with a full symphony orchestra. As a testament to his virtuosity and musicality this is a live album where everyone played together at the same time. There is not a single edit in this recording and each selection is a complete take from start to finish.

I am thrilled to re-release this incredible album with my friend, my colleague and one of the finest musicians alive.

More to come…
I was sincerely touched by the response to my Clark Terry post, so here is another tune from the same date…1962 at A&R Studios in NY with Phil Ramone as engineer.
This tune features CT plus a twenty-three year old Phil Woods. As I mentioned is was my first professional album as an arranger. This is an original, and to be honest I don’t remember what I called it…so let’s call it “One More Blues.”
In the 1980’s I had a recording label called “Soundwings.” I was very proud of our recordings as I felt they showed the extraordinary talents that were involved in a
very special way. One of them was Tom Scott. I have been a fan of Tom from the time I first moved to Los Angeles. I am so pleased that we are able to re-release his album “One Night One Day.” Here is a little touch of what’s to come.
Below is an excerpt of “La La Land.” Composed, arranged and performed by Tom Scott.
